Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul in Alum’s Film!
Kat directed her own script, as she has for two out of three of her previously produced feature films. This one is about a fractured family trying to hold it together in a small refinery town in southeast Texas. It grew out of her same-named short that screened at Sundance last year. When Kat sat in on The Screenplay Workshop’s Master Class in 2009, she was already an accomplished filmmaker with two feature films to her credit as Writer/Director, Cicadas (2000) and Jumping Off Bridges (2006). Austin Chronicle Reviews UsIn September, Austin Film Society invited The Screenplay Workshop to present a special three-hour intensive at Austin Studios. The Austin Chronicle sent a reporter and she summed up her experience aptly. Here’s what she had to say about our signature method, the acclaimed “Nutshell Technique”: “The Nutshell Technique aims to pinpoint the heart of the story and eliminate glitches and gaps, and judging from my experience in the three-hour intensive, it does exactly that…The clarity achieved in only three hours was remarkable. Weeks later, my ideas continue to churn, and I have already referred back to my Nutshell worksheet. I ought to laminate this thing.” But my favorite part might be her mention of the participant who came in that morning all the way from Guadalajara, Mexico! She definitely received the “Commuting Award” (which means all you Dallas and Houston students are all just a bunch of whiners – KIDDING, of course!! Alumni NewsMNIT Productions will begin shooting My Name is Tanyusha, a feature co-written by alumna Lisa Belcher, in Hong Kong in December. Andy Olson and Liz Belile were hired to write a feature about the life of Quanah Parker, who was the last Comanche chief. The independent production is slated to begin filming in the spring. Another win for Hannah Feller! Her psychothriller The Turnaround won Best Original Screenplay at the Carmel Art & Film Festival. The Screenplay Workshop is on Twitter as @jillchamberlain.
