Skype Group Video Class

The Screenplay Workshop’s superb curriculum is now available anywhere in the world you have a high speed Internet connection! Our Skype Group Video Workshop brings you the same highly interactive experience you’d have if you came to our Austin classroom but without leaving your home.

Utilizing Skype’s group video calling feature, the workshop meets live Saturdays at 10:30 am CDT with two-way video. In just five weeks, you’ll learn all the basics you need to know in order to write a feature-length screenplay in this fun and accelerated workshop.

TSW Alumni Terry Raven‘s script “Burnt Orange” was selected as a finalist for Best Screenplay at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Terry wrote the script when he was in the Winter 2011 Master Class.

TSW Director Jill Chamberlain was recently invited to write an article for Script Frenzy, an annual, worldwide screenwriting event from the creators of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). You can read her article about “The Business of Screenwriting and The Rule of 1” here.

Screenwriting Tip:
Lose the Adjectives and Adverbs

Adjectives and adverbs often water-down your screenwriting and make it less effective, not more. Instead, try to find more precise nouns and verbs to describe your action.

“He walks quickly across the alley” gives me a limited picture. But what if you wrote: “He dashes across the alley” or “He scampers across the alley” — doesn’t that give you a more nuanced visual? Instead of “big, expensive boat,” how about “yacht”? It’s two fewer words, and yet I can see it in my mind much more vividly.
